Sixty feet
long and sixty tonnes, the Motor Vessel Pembroke is a classic small
ship with a pure Fiordland pedigree, having spent most of her time
since being launched in 1962 by the New Zealand Government to introduce
tourists to the splendors of New Zealand's waterways and coastal
scenery.
The MV Pembroke was built to the highest specifications and was
assiduously maintained without regard to cost by the New Zealand
Government, until her sale and conversion to a dive charter boat
in 1985. In 1997 the Pembroke was taken to Auckland and completely
refitted and upgraded, before being purchased in 2004 by a group
of enthusiasts with the vision and ambition to provide a unique
opportunity to enjoy the most remote areas of Fiordland.
The Pembroke has comfortable accommodation for 8 passengers with
6 single beds and 2 double beds in 3 cabins and is set up for diving,
fishing, sightseeing or just relaxing in solitude.
With fully equipped galley and appointments the Pembroke is set
up purposely for remote operations and the ability to deliver haute
cuisine.
The vessel carries 8 dive tanks, dive compressor, soft weight belts
and weights as well as 6 fishing rods. The foredeck and full walk
around side decks offer plenty of fishing room, while the upper
deck takes care of a 3.6m (10') RIB and sea kayaks ideal for taking
in the scenery.
The bridge features a full range of electronics including radar,
chart plotter, depth sounder, SSB/VHF radio's, satellite phone as
well as a full sound system throughout the vessel. 240 volt power
throughout the vessel ensures the reliable operation of any electronic
equipment, battery chargers, hairdryers etc.
The Pembroke also has a central heating system throughout to keep
the vessel dry and warm even on the coolest winter nights.
The primary charter skipper and shareholding partner is Derek Brown,
a fully qualified commercial skipper, divemaster and pilot. Derek
has extensive experience throughout Fiordland and his knowledge
of the history and geography of the fiords as well as all the best
diving and fishing spots will ensure a safe and comfortable trip!
